How to Crochet a Hat with Butterfly Motif

Hi there everyone,
I am very happy with the way my hat turned out so am sharing it with you. Remember that the numbers on the video correspond to the numbers on the pattern. The whole hat is done in hdc except for the border which you can do in hdc or in the back or forward post hdc like I did.

How to Crochet a Hat with a Butterfly Motif

Sc = single crochet,  Dc = double crochet,  Sp = space,  Tr = treble,  St = stitch, 

Ch = chain,  * * =repeat work in between the stars,  Tog = together,  yo – yarn over, ss = slip stitch

P = pink  W=white

This hat is done in half a double crochet – hdc all the way.

I used caron simply soft yarn with a size 6.5 (k) hook.

The numbers on the video correspond to the numbers on this written pattern

1.  Ch 4, ss into the 1^st ch to form a ring

2.  Ch2, 7hdc in the ring = 8hdc, ss into the 1^st ch of the ch2

3.  Ch2 (stands as 1^st hdc) 1hdc in the same sp, *2hdc in each st*, repeat to the end,  ss into 1^st ch = 16hdc

4.  Ch2 (for 1^st hdc), 1hdc in the same sp, 1hdc in the next st, *2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next st* rep to end – 24 hdc, ss into 1^st st

5.  Ch2, 1hdc in the same st, 1hdc in next st, 1hdc in the  next st, *2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next st* to the end = 32 hdc, ss into 1^st st

6. Ch2, 1hdc in next st, 1hdc in the next, 1hdc in the next, *2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in each of the next 3st* to the end = 40hdc, ss into 1^st st

7.  Ch2, 1hdc in each of the next 4st, *2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in each of the next 4 st* to the end = 48st, ss into1st st

8.  Ch2, 1 hdc in each of the next 5st, *2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in each of the next 5st* to the end =56st, ss into 1^st st

9. Ch2, 1hdc in each of the next 6st, *2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in each of the next 6st* to the end = 64st, ss into 1^st st

You need to repeat each row twice – P = pink  W =white

10.   Crochet 15p stitches, 1w, 3p, 1w, 12p – repeat this again. Make sure you end with exactly 12 pink stitches

HOW TO CROCHET A JACKET WITH WHITE MOTIFS PART 1

Hi there,

This jacket I designed with hexagons and is actually really easy. You can make the hexagon smaller or larger, by adding a row or two or less, or you need to use a smaller hook and yarn. But we all use the same amount of motifs.

Remember to get the best results you need to work with the video and the written pattern

HOW TO CROCHET A JACKET WITH WHITE MOTIFS

PART 1

Sc = single crochet,  Dc = double crochet,  Sp = space,  Tr = treble,  St = stitch, 

Ch = chain,  * * =repeat work in between the stars,  Tog = together,  yo – yarn over, ss = slip stitch, hdc = half a double crochet

Dc 3 tog  = yo, hook into specified st, pull up a loop, yo and draw hook through 2 loops (2 loops left), yo, hook into specified st, pull up a loop, yo and draw hook through 2 loops, yo hook into specified st, pull up a loop, yo and draw hook through 2 loops and through all st

You will need to make 30 whole motifs and 6 half motifs for the jacket.

Simply Soft Caron in white, using a size 5mm hook, you will need about 8 skeins.

Large Motif

1.   Start with a slip knot and ch3, 12hdc in the first chain, ss into 1^st st

2.  ch3 (stands as 1^st dc), 2dc tog in the same sp, ch3, *3dc tog in next sc, ch3* rep to end, ending with ch3 and ss into the middle of the 3dc together you had started with (12 clusters)

3. * 4sc in the next ch sp*, rep all the way around, ss into the 1^st sc

4. * 12ch, 1dc into the 4^th ch from the hook , 1dc into the next 8dc = 9dc, sc into the sc in the  middle of the next dc cluster* rep to end (12 petals)

5.  ss into the 1^st 3stitches of your 1^st petal, 1sc into the next 6sc, 5sc into the ch sp at the top of the petal, 6sc down the petal, * 1sc into the 4^th sc from the bottom, of the next petal and 1sc into the next 5sc (giving you 6 all together going up your petal)*, to end and ss into 4^th stitch from bottom of the first petal you did.

6.  ch 12, sc into the middle of the 1^st petal, *ch5, treble by wrapping yarn around the hook 5 times( and going through 2 loops at a time) and into the middle of the two petals, ch5 and sc into the top of the next petal* repeat to the end and sc into the 5^th ch of the 11 ch.

7.  TALKING ABOUT THE DIFFERENT SIZE MOTIFS

8.  Ss into the 1^st ch space. *ch6, sc into next ch sp* repeat to end, ending with ch6 and sc into the very 1^st ch sp you made = 24 ch spaces

9.  BORDER (if doing the larger size you might need to do extra dc – watch video at numer 9)

    * Ch 3 (stands as 1^st dc), 2dc, ch 3, 3dc all in the same space = Corner, 3dc in the next ch sp, 3dc in the next ch sp, 3dc in the next ch sp* repeat from * to * except the very first ch3 must be a dc. End with a ss to beg ch3

MAKING HALF A MOTIF

10.  Ch2, 6hdc in the 1^st ch, ss into the 1^st st

11.  Ch3 (stands as 1^st dc), 2dc tog in same sp, *ch3, 3dc tog in next space* (6 all tog),

12.  Do the 7^th, 3dc tog in the last space = 7 clusters,

       Turn your work around, ch1 * 4sc into the next ch sp* and into each ch sp = 6 ch spaces

13.  Turn your work around, ch12, skip 3 and 1dc into the 4^th from the hook, 1dc in the next 8,

       *sc above the cluster, ch12, 1dc into 4^th from the hook, 1dc in the next 8* go around = 6 petals

14.  Turn your work and ss up 3 stitches, *1sc in the next 6 stitches, 5sc in the ch sp at the top of petal and 6sc down, sc into the 4^th stitch from the bottom of opposite petal* do this till end of petals and finish.

15.  Restart at the top of your petal and ch5, sc in same petal, ch 5, sc on top of same petal, *ch5, treble with 5 times wrapped around hook into stitch at bottom of both petals, ch 5 sc into next petal* do until the last petal and instead of sc into middle of petal sc into the side, ch5 and sc into the same petal (you must have 13 ch spaces)

16.  Ch6, turn your work around, sc into the 1^st ch sp, *Ch6, sc into next ch sp* to last ch sp (13 ch sp)

17.  Ch3, turn work around 3dc in same ch sp, ch3, 3dc in same sp, *3dc in next ch sp, 3dc in next ch sp, 3dc in next ch sp and then a corner*, rep to end and do 3dc and ch 3 and sc into same sp

18.  Sc across bottom evenly and finish off.

PART 2

PUTTING YOUR JACKET TOGETHER

1.  Make 1 strip of 6 motifs sewn tog (for the front and back)

2.    Make 1 strip of 6 motifs sewn tog (for the front and back)

3.   Make 1 strip of 5 with a half a motif on either side(for the front and back)

    Make 1 strips of 3 motifs (for the back)

    Make 1 strip of 3 motifs (for the sleeve, folded over)

    Make 1 strip of 3 motifs (for the sleeve, folded over)

    Sew 1 full motif and one half a motif  (used for the left front)

    Sew 1 full motif and one half a motif   (used for the right front)

    Sew 1 full motif and one half a motif  (used for the bottom of the left sleeve, folded over)

    Sew 1 full motif and one half  motif  (used for the bottom of the right sleeve, folded over)

This will equal 30 full motifs and 6 half motifs

Now sew the 6 and 5(with 2 halves on edges) and 6 together, with the 5 (and 2 halves) in the middle of the 2, 6 motif strips – you have 3 equal rows. (When you fold it over by the 2 end pieces and bring 1.5 motif to the front, it makes a front and a back, and the back will have 3 motifs.

4.  Sew the 1 strip of 3(used for the back) in the middle of the strip of 6 so the strip of 6 would have 1 and a half a motif left on either side

5.  Sew the 1 full and half a motif onto the one side of the strip of 3 (for the back) and the other 1 full and a half a motif onto the other side but only join them half way (sew the top half) as the 1.5 motif will be flipping up to meet the 3 motif strip for the sleeve.

7.  Sew the fronts 1 and a half motif onto the front on both sides (the one and a half go on top of half of the back 3 motif strip you sewed on).

8.  Sew the other strip of 3 onto the back (start where the front half a motif is and flip the top over to the front) it is used for the back and the front. Do the same for the other side.

Make sure you are working on the right side of your work

SLEEVE BORDER

11.  Start with a slip knot and start anywhere on your sleeve with ch3, 1dc in almost every stitch, use your initiative, you don’t want your sleeve to be pulled in too much and you don’t want too many stitches so it is too loose. I did 57dc on my sleeve. Keep going around the sleeve till you get to where you started and Ss into 1^st ch.

Make sure both sleeves have the same amount of stitches, so count the first one and remember to do the same amount on the other sleeve.

12.  Ch3, 1dc in next stitch, *1dc in next st, 1dc in next st, Skip one dc* repeat this to the end, ss into the ch3

13.  Ch1, reverse sc around an end off

BORDER AROUND FRONT AND BACK

14. Start at the bottom of the one side and work your way around by ss into a spot, ch3 (for 1^st dc)For this round you are going to do 1dc 4 times and then skip one stitch, all the way around. So instead of 1dc in each stitch every 4^th one you will skip.

15.  Ch3 for 1^st dc, *1dc in each dc *all the way around, increasing a few dc in your corners where needed.

16. Same as row 15

17. Do as many rows as you need.  Last row you will do reverse sc .

How to Crochet a Scarf in Ribbon Lace

 Hi there,
This scarf is done in what is called Ribbon Lace. You crochet by turning your work around, work that side then turn around again, doing half motifs. It is not for beginners, but never hold back on trying something new!

HOW TO CROCHET A SCARF IN RIBBON LACE

Red Heart Boutique, Unforgettable, color is Parrot

Hook size 5mm, 8 US 

This is a more advanced project

Picot – 3ch, sc in the 1^st ch,

Sc = single crochet,  Dc = double crochet,  Sp = space,  Tr = treble,  St = stitch, 

Ch = chain,  * * =repeat work in between the stars,  Tog = together,  yo – yarn over, ss = slip stitch

3 Treble Together = *Wrap yarn around hook x2, insert hook into st (read pattern for either same st or into the next st), yarn over, bring a loop thru, yarn over, thru 2 loops, thru 2, leave rest on hook*, repeat till 3 trebles done, yarn over and thru all remaining loops.

1.  Make a magic circle with 22dc (ch3 for 1^st dc), ss into top of beg ch3

2.  ch5 (standing for 1dc and 2ch),  1dc, ch2 in each stitch all the way around = 22 dc, ss into the 3^rd ch.

3.  ss into 1^st ch sp, ch 3, 2Tr tog in the same space, 3ch,

 *3Tr tog in the same space, 3 ch in each space around* end with 3ch, ss into the top of the 3tr (you should have 22 Tr clusters)

4.  ch15, sc in 1^st ch sp,

 4sc in each of the next 6 ch spaces,

2sc in the next ch sp, 1 picot, 2sc all in the same sp, repeat this till you have 13 picots, your last 2 ch spaces just do 4sc in each, ss in first ch (FIRST MOTIF)

5.  start with a slip knot (new yarn)  and do a sc in the sc you made in the 1^st ch sp, ch 2 (sc counts as the 3^rd one)

Skip 3sc and sc in the next st, turn your work around (to the wrong side of your work) and do 14dc in the large ch sp (the ch3 we did on previous row counts as the 1^st dc) so you should have 15dc in the ch sp

Ch3, sc in the 4^th sc, ch 2,Turn your work around,

 dc in the first dc (in the 15ch sp), ch2,* dc in the next dc, ch2* do this all the way around and you should have 15dc (including the one shown in video)

sc into the 4^th sc, ch3, skip 3sc and sc into the 4^th sc

ch3, turn your work around,

6.  3Tr tog in the 1^st ch sp, ch 3, *3Tr tog, ch 3 in the next sp)* (14 clusters at the end) end with ch3

Sc in the 4^th sc, turn work around,

Ch1, sc in the ch sp, picot, sc 2 in the same sp,

2sc in the next sp, picot, 2sc in the same sp, repeat this till you have 8 picots,

4sc in the next sp, repeat this in the next 7 spaces (motif done)

THIS YOU REPEAT OVER AND OVER

7.  Sc in the sc (above first tr) and sc in the next sc

ch13, turn work around, sc in the 1^st sc,

8.  11dc in the circle(13ch) the ch3 from previous round is the 1^st dc (12 all together)

Ch2, dc in the 1^st dc (the dc you made in the 13ch circle), *ch2, dc in the next dc*, keep doing this and you should have 12dc, end with the dc,

Sc above the next Tr,  ch3, sc above the next Tr, turn work around,

9. ch3, *3Tr Tog in the next space, 3ch* keep doing this till you end up with 11 Tr (end with Tr not ch3)

Sc above the next Tr, ch3, sc above the next Tr, turn work around,

Ch1, sc into the very 1^st space (made by the ch3 of previous round) picot with ch3 in same space, 2sc in the same sp,

*2sc into the next sp, picot, 2sc in the same sp* (rep this until you have 5 picots in the 5 spaces) and then you do *4sc in the next space* repeat the 4sc till you have 7 of the 4sc spaces.

10. This is 7-9 repeated (you just keep doing this until scarf is length you want)

How to Crochet a Lacy Granny Square

Hi there, This is a wonderful lacy granny square which can be used for anything. I hope you enjoy making it.

LACY GRANNY SQUARE

You can use any size crochet hook and yarn

Sc = single crochet,  Dc = double crochet,  Sp = space,  Tr = treble,  St = stitch, 

Ch = chain,  * * =repeat work in between the stars,  Tog = together,  yo – yarn over, ss = slip stitch (or sl st)

1  Make 5 ch and join into a ring

2  1Ch, 11sc into ring, sl st to first ch

3  *15ch, sl st into next sc, rep from * 11 times more; working last sl st into sl st at end of rnd 1, ending with 12 ch loops

4.  Sl st along to centre of first loop, *4ch, 1sc into next loop, 4ch, (yo,  insert hook into next loop, yarn over, draw loop through, yarn over, draw through 2 loops) 3 times, yarn over, draw through all 4 loops on hook – called cluster – 4ch, cluster into same loop, 4ch, 1sc into next loop, repeat from * 3 times more, working last sc into slip stitch at beg of round

5.  Sl st along to centre of first 4ch loop, 3ch, cluster into this same loop, *4ch, 1sc into next loop, 4ch,  (cl, 4ch, cl) into next loop, 4ch, 1sc into next loop, 4ch, cl into next loop, rep from *3 times more, but omit last cluster and sl st to 3^rd of first 3ch.

How to Crochet a Choker

 Hi, there,

This is a fairly easy choker to crochet. I hope you have fun making it.

CHOKER

Sc = single crochet,  ss= slip stitch,  dc = double crochet,  sp = space,  ch = chain,  rep = repeat,  beg = beginning, ** repeat in between stars

 

Any Embroidery Cotton

Hook, size 3.5

Pattern = 6 stitches, so multiples of 6 for your foundation ch

This choker is 13.5 inches in length, so I have 13 x 6 stitches (pattern) which gives me 78 ch plus 1 to turn = 79 stitches

1.   Ch 79 (78 plus 1), turn

2.   Sc in 2^nd ch from hook and in each ch = 78sc

For row 3 - On the video I said to ch1 turn and then ch3 (It was supposed to be ch1, turn and sc in 1^st sc, I left out the sc , it isn’t going to make a big difference they will both work so either way)

3.   Ch1, sc in 1^st sc, *ch3 skip 2sc, 3dc in next sc (3dc in same stitch), ch3, skip 2sc, sc in next sc* rep this till last 3dc, ch3 and sc1  in last sc

4.   *5ch, sc in 1^st dc (of the 3),

Ch3, ss in the 1^st ch of the 3 (picot made) x3 (make 3 picots one after each other)

Sc in the 3^rd dc (of the 3)*  repeat this till end and end with the sc, then ch2 and dc in the sc below

Sew a button on.

How to Crochet a Doily in Bruges Lace

BRUGES LACE DOILY

To do this doily you need to know the basics of making a bruges lace

The pattern goes from the beginning of the one cluster to the end of the same cluster which is 6 rows but our row one becomes row 7 (as we don’t do the beginning of row 1, so I changed it to row 7 to make it easier) so we repeat rows 2 to 7 till 7 clusters are made

 

To start we are starting where you see the 3dc increases except you are just trying to get your chains so the ch with the 3dc is still considered 1ch and then 2 more, so that gives you 3ch plus the 6ch for your loop. You are going from Left to Right. 

You need to look down on the row to do your row not up (so below the line is your row – if this helps)

Dc 3 tog  = yo, hook into specified st, pull up a loop, yo and draw hook through 2 loops (2 loops left), yo, hook into specified st, pull up a loop, yo and draw hook through 2 loops, yo hook into specified st, pull up a loop, yo and draw hook through 2 loops and through all st

3 Treble Together = *Wrap yarn around hook x2, insert hook into st (read pattern for either same st or into the next st), yarn over, bring a loop thru, yarn over, thru 2 loops, thru 2, leave rest on hook*, repeat till 3 trebles done, yarn over and thru all remaining loops.

WORKING OUR TAPE

1.    Ch 9, 1dc in the 7^th ch from hook, (From right to left on pattern) 1dc in the next st and 3dc in the next st, ch 6 turn

2.    (Left to right) 3dc in the next dc (incr) and 1dc in each of the next 4dc, ch6 and turn

3.    (Right to left) 1dc in each of the next 7dc, ch 6 and turn

4.    (Left to right) 1dc in each of the next 7dc, ch3 and join your 2 loops with a sc, ch3 and turn

5.    (right to left) 1dc in each of the next 4dc and dc the last 3 tog, ch 6 and turn

6.    (left to right) dc the next 3dc tog, 1dc in each of the next 2dc, ch 6 and turn

7.    (right to left) 1dc in each of the next 2dc, 3dc in the next 1dc(incr) ch6, turn

Repeat row 2 to 7 until you have 7 “clusters” finishing with row 6 but without doing the ch6

When you join your 2 sides together to form a circle make sure that the 3 loops you had joined tog are all facing inside the circle

MIDDLE SECTION – adding middle motif to the tape

Make a magic loop and crochet 21sc in it, ss into 1^st st

4ch, 2Tr tog in the following 2 st, ch4 and sc in the sc of the tape where you sc the 3 loops  together , ch 4

*3Tr tog in the next 3 st, ch 4 and sc in the sc of the tape where you sc the 3 loops together, ch 4* repeat in between the stars,

     to the end, ss into the top of the first 3Tr you made and finish
